Cleaning fruits and vegetables

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Contaminated fruits and vegetables can introduce concentrated toxins and pathogens into your system, far from promoting a healthy diet. To ease the chore of cleaning produce, here are various methods:

  1. Water Rinsing: A common choice, but it may leave some residues and parasites intact.

  2. Lemon Salt Bath: Soak produce in cold water with lemon juice and salt for 10 minutes, then rinse.

  3. Thieves Household Cleanser: Use 1/2 tsp in a cold water soak for 10 minutes, followed by a thorough rinse.

  4. Clorox Bleach: Despite its harsh reputation, it effectively cleans produce. Mix 1 tsp per gallon of water, soak, rinse, and let dry.

  5. Hydrochloric Acid: Obtain at a pharmacy, use a 1% solution (1 oz HCL to 3 quarts of water) for a 10-minute soak, then rinse.

  6. Boiling Water Bath: Only suitable for robust produce. Quickly dip fruits or vegetables in boiling water for 10 seconds to eliminate contaminants on the surface.
